Spray foam insulation significantly outperforms traditional insulation (batt, blown in or rigid) in R-value, moisture reduction and air sealing. These unique benefits make it an ideal solution for the wet and cool Vancouver Island climate.

When it comes to insulating your home, office, or commercial building, Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) stands out as a top choice. SPF dominates the competition against other forms of insulation.

Spray foam offers greater benefits compared to traditional insulation—from energy savings to quality of life as well as reduced environmental footprint.

By creating an air-tight seal that eliminates all air currents passing through structural walls, spray foam insulation effectively insulates your home or commercial building.

In addition to temperature control, it provides protection against dust, allergens, exterior moisture, and pollutants.

3 Reasons Why Spray Foam Insulation is Better

Installer spraying foam insulation

R-Value “Fairy Tale”

R-Value is a measure of resistance to heat flow, but it only measures resistance to conduction.

Conduction (heat transfer through solid molecules) is only responsible for 20% of a building’s heat loss, while convection (heat transfer by air molecules moving from hot areas to cold areas) is responsible for 80%.

Conventional fiber insulations resist heat loss by conduction, but only attempts to slow down convection currents by trapping dormant air molecules.

This air is free to move within and through the insulation which decreases the insulation values and can lead to damaging moisture problems.

Spray Foam is superior insulation as it’s closed cell structure doesn’t allow air to enter and thus stops heat loss through convection.

Effects of Wind

Wind causes a pressure difference across the wall.

This sucks the polyethylene vapour barrier into the wall cavity which compresses fiber insulations.

It can decrease the R-Value of fiber insulation up to 80% while spray foam is unaffected by wind.

Effects of Cold Weather

As the temperature drops outside, convection currents speed up inside and fiber insulation becomes less effective while Spray Foam is unaffected by cold weather.

Rebates with Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation provides a tight seal that keeps moisture and air from entering your home. This aids in attaining more ideal temperatures during all four seasons.

Insulation can help maintain more even temperatures throughout your home, reduce unwanted outdoor noise, and reduce heat loss during the cold winter months.

As part of the Home Renovation Rebate and CleanBC Better Homes Program, you can receive rebates for installing insulation in your home.

We are certified installers of the CleanBC rebate program and can offer guidance to home owners through this process.
